Hallan pistas sobre la fatiga

Un grupo de estudiosos descubrió proteínas en el fluido espinal que distinguen entre los pacientes de dos enfermedades misteriosas que se parecen: el síndrome de fatiga crónica y una variante de la enfermedad de Lyme.

La enfermedad de Lyme, afección infecciosa transmitida por garrapatas, se suele curar con antibióticos, pero algunos pacientes reportan dolor, fatiga y problemas neurológicos meses o años después del tratamiento.

El estudio, dirigido por Steven Schutzer, de la Universidad de Medicina y Odontología de Nueva Jersey, detectó grupos de proteínas exclusivos de cada enfermedad. El próximo paso será comprobar si determinadas anomalías podrían facilitar el diagnóstico y si se detectan en la sangre. (AP)
